Contents of Experimentation Kit #1

Experimentation Kit #1 is a
variable speed control unit for the reed switch motors. It works with
kits #1,2,3,4,5,8 and may work with the reed switch motor you built
yourself. It also provided good results with the motors on a Hall effect IC
(kits #6, 8). This kit allows to control and gradually change the speed of the motor
from a complete stop to the maximum speed. It even increases the normal
speed of the motor 10-25%.
This is a very simple kit, which
consists of three parts: inner and outer stands and a magnet. Despite the
simplicity of this kit it is highly recommended to use a multimeter to find the
correct orientation and position of the magnet, as explained in Assembly Instructions: Experimentation Kit #1.
Improper magnet orientation may destroy your reed switch and will drain your
batteries very quickly. A good digital multimeter is included in experimentation
kit #3. It is also available as a separate part.
This kit also includes 2 reed
switches: one regular size heavy duty reed switch and a smaller size reed
switch. Both of them work fine with all of the reed switch motors and may be
used for different experiments. (It is not recommended to exceed 6 Volts
for the smaller reed switch.)

Reed Switch Motor for
information on how speed control unit works.
